(2019-2020) Ha Long Bay Domino

client : Ha Long Sun Limited Liability Company
typology : Mixed-Use Destination
services : Concept Architecture & Feasibility Study
where : Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

The approximately 550m tall mixed-use tower was conceived as a landmark integrated destination located offshore in Ha Long Bay, developed on an open-sea land reclamation platform.

The project combines approximately 458 branded residential units, 610 serviced apartments, and over 400 hotel keys across 5-star and 6-star hospitality components, together with a multi-level retail, cultural and conference programme exceeding 70,000 m², within a single vertical structure.

The architectural form, derived from geometric interpretations of sound waves and water reverberation, establishes a spiralling, descending massing supported by a central vertical core and perimeter structural system optimised for slender tower performance. The program is vertically distributed to integrate residential, hospitality, conference and event facilities, and a destination retail podium, supported by onshore arrivals and utility infrastructure. The terraced configuration generates a continuous sequence of occupiable outdoor platforms, enabling large-span public and private spaces while maintaining structural efficiency and vertical circulation performance.

The development was supported by pre-engineering feasibility studies undertaken by ARUP, covering structural systems, marine and reclamation conditions, wind engineering, vertical transportation, and building services, establishing a robust technical and commercial foundation for implementation.

Scope: Lead Design Architect, structural engineering, MEP engineering, façade engineering, vertical transportation, marine and civil engineering, and 3D modelling.
